On 1st June 2016, Meet Music, the Meet Culture’s music label company officially released the first ever Chinese-Greek crossover album AEGEAN in mainland China. In the meantime, in Taiwan, Meet Culture has signed this album to PBC Music who has also officially published in Taiwan and online globally.
This historical album AEGEAN was recorded by acclaimed Chinese Guzheng virtuoso Chang Jing, Xiao (Chinese flute) musician Zhang Di and ancient Greek Lyre band Lyre ‘n’ Rhapsody in Athens, during the culture exchange project “Sound of Silk” Chang Jing Music Travel in Greece in October 2015, initiated and organized by Meet Culture, a culture company based in Athens focusing on the culture exchange between China and Greece.
Chang Jing is one of China’s most exceptional Guzheng virtuosos. She captivated the attention of the world with the beautiful melody of Guzheng, an ancient stringed instrument, as the soloist in the Opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. She also performed together with the famous Greek musician Yanni in 2013 CCTV Spring Festival Gala with an audience of 700 million. Her enchanting performance that combines singing and reciting classic Chinese poetry also made her a royal teacher of the Princess of Thailand.
Lyre ‘n’ Rhapsody consisting of the Greek musicians Aliki Markantonatou, Areti Miggou and Athena Chioti is one of the few Greek bands devoted to the revival of ancient Greek music in a modern dialogue.
Most of the pieces in AEGEAN are improvisations and some inspired by ancient melodies. The recording of this album was like the meeting between the two ancient civilizations who have been awaited for thousands of years.
Earlier this year, the MV of Golden Mist, the hit song of this album AEGEAN, has already been released in both China and Greece.
